Twenty-one days is a myth. Sixty-six is the number that survives the research.

The "21 days to build a habit" claim comes from a plastic surgeon's note about how long patients took to accept a new face. It was never a study of habits — and it has quietly cost a great many people their confidence, because when the habit isn't automatic on Day 22, they conclude the fault is theirs and stop.

When University College London researchers actually measured it, the median time for a new behaviour to become automatic was 66 days.

This tracker is built on that number — and on the one finding that matters more than any other: a single missed day does almost no damage. What kills a habit is missed days clustering. So this planner asks you for honesty, not a spotless grid.
